This award-winning
and critically acclaimed female African-American ensemble creates a
unique and uplifting sound to inspire and entertain parents and children
alike. With their powerful, expressive voices and soaring harmonies,
Sweet Honey's unique approach to a cappella vocalizing creates a positive
experience that is universal in its appeal.
A cappella ~ just the power of the human voice.
This is music that has its roots in the sacred music of the Black church - spirituals, hymns, and gospel - mixed up with jazz, blues, contemporary rhythms and impeccable narratives.
Now in it's fourth decade, this Grammy Award-winning ensemble will have their many CDs, tapes & videos for sales at this performance. Included will be the group's newest album and its third for children...Still the Same Me...filled with songs that speak directly to kids about life's little annoyances.

This sextet of singers, works with a Sign Language Interpreter since 1980 making their performances accessible to the Deaf. Shirley Childress Saxton is part of the on-stage ensemble - she is a veteran professional Sign Language interpreter having learned American Sign Language from her Deaf parents.
Sweet Honey's collective voices, occasionally accompanied by sparse hand percussion instruments, produce a sound which filled with soulful harmonies and intricate rhythms, is symphonic. Their ability to perform and improvise the broad spectrum of vocal styles including African chants, spirituals, traditional gospel, jazz, rhythm and blues and rap makes them exceptional among vocal ensembles, and their willingness to tackle the difficult subjects of our time in the context of exquisite and powerful musicality makes them extraordinary.
